Verify the GSTIN, ask for the minimum order, check samples and packing, confirm transport and the LR number, agree on payment terms, and start with a small first order. A good wholesaler answers all of this clearly.
A wholesaler is the business you buy from in bulk, to resell in your own shop. Choosing well matters more than finding the lowest rate: late deliveries, mixed quality and missing bills cost a shop far more than a small price difference. Run through these ten checks with any wholesaler, in Delhi or anywhere else.
1. Verify the business
Ask for the GSTIN and check it yourself on the government GST portal (Search Taxpayer on services.gst.gov.in). The legal name, status and registered address should match what the wholesaler tells you. Then look the address up on Google Maps. A wholesaler that is easy to verify is easier to trust. Here is how you can verify BazaarPro.
2. Ask about the minimum order
Minimum orders differ a lot. Ask for the first-order minimum and whether you can mix categories (for example shirts and T-shirts) in one order. A lower, flexible minimum lets you test the market before you commit.
3. Ask what is in stock and what takes time
Find out which designs are ready and which are made to order, and how long a reorder normally takes. This helps you plan your season.
4. Look at samples and quality
Ask to see the actual goods, not only photos, and check stitching, fabric and finishing. Our quality checklist shows what to look for. Inspect pieces from inside the carton.
5. Check packing and size labels
Ask how the goods are packed and how sizes are labelled. Clear packing and consistent size labels make your own stock-keeping much easier.
6. Get a GST bill and be clear on rates
Always ask for a GST bill and keep it. Be clear whether quoted rates are with or without GST. Keep every bill for your records. This guide is general information, not legal or tax advice; for questions about your own business, ask your accountant.
7. Confirm transport
Ask who arranges transport, where it is delivered, and whether you will get the LR number to track your parcel. Delivery to your own station saves you a trip to the market.
8. Agree on payment terms
Ask which payment methods are accepted and when payment is due: in advance, at the counter or on delivery. Choose methods that leave a clear record.
9. Ask about damaged goods and returns
Ask what happens if goods arrive damaged or wrong, and by when you must report it. Count the packages and open a few cartons on delivery, before you accept.
10. Start small and watch the communication
Place a modest first order. See how quickly the wholesaler replies on phone or WhatsApp, whether the delivered goods match what you saw, and whether a reorder is consistent. Increase your orders only after that.
